Purpose
Term: Annual, may be renewed.
Role Summary:
To prepare the church for worship, and to collect the offering.
Responsibilities:
8:45 am
1. 1)Arrive by 8:30 a.m., turn on lights, unlock all outer doors to church, Fellowship Hall and education building, Check heat or AC.
2. Turn on sanctuary lights and stained glass window, and be certain sanctuary front (communion table side doors) are closed.
3. If no acolyte, ushers are required to light the communion table candles.
4. Ushers will greet and pass out bulletins to people arriving for service.
5. Ushers to remain at sanctuary doors until at least 9:15 a.m.
6. Ushers will guide guests to available seating.
7. As service begins, Fellowship Hall and downstairs doors are to be closed.
8. Ushers will take up collection at appointed time during the service.
9. If no acolyte, usher will extinguish the communion table candles.
10. During communion, ushers are to direct by pew, persons desiring communion. Congregation to take communion on center aisle and return to seats via side aisles, unless otherwise directed by pastor.
11. Ushers will take attendance and post the number on the sanctuary attendance board.
12. Ushers will take up litter and neaten hymnals and pew Bibles after the 8:45 a.m. service.
13. Be aware when seating becomes limited, and offer assistance to accommodate as many persons as possible in the sanctuary.
11:00 am
1. Ushers must be in the Narthex by 10:45 a.m. with bulletins in hand to greet those attending service and hand out bulletins.
2. Ushers will guide guests to available seating.
3. Ushers to remain at sanctuary doors for until at least 11:15 a.m.
4. As service begins, Fellowship Hall door and downstairs door, are to be closed.
5. Ushers will take up collection at appointed time during the service.
6. On Communion Sunday (First Sunday of Month), ushers will lead congregation to the communion table rail by row (according to the type of communion service we are having), down the center aisle and return to their seats using the outside aisle.
7. Please fill the rail as much as possible, but with no more than 14 people (don’t crowd the rail).
8. The acolyte’s candle lighter must be lit, and acolyte sent down the aisle at the correct time. Normally, this will be after the announcements.
9. Be aware when seating becomes limited, and offer assistance to accommodate as many persons as possible in the sanctuary. Remember radical hospitality.
10. As service begins, close the Fellowship Hall and downstairs doors.
11. Ushers will take attendance and post the number on the sanctuary attendance board.
12. After the 11:00 a.m. service is over, Ushers must turn out all lights and lock all doors and turn off P.A. System.
a. The PA system is in the hallway behind the piano, use the switch on the power strip.
b. The sanctuary and chancel lights are in the hallway opposite the piano.
c. The spotlights are controlled in the soundroom. Note that the buttons on the sliders must be pushed on or off - sliding them all the way down is not sufficient.
13. Note: An Usher’s responsibilities changes with the seasons of the church.
