Purpose
Term: 3 years
Role Summary:
This person is responsible for providing the communion elements on the first Sunday of each month for both worship services and on other special occasions, as requested (Christmas Eve, Maundy Thursday, Easter Sunrise).
Responsibilities:
1. Prepare the communion table and elements per the pastor’s or Worship Committee’s preferences.
a. This could include chalices for intinction or small cups of juice to be served individually, fresh whole loafs of bread to be broken at each service or a mixture of breads cut into bite size pieces (as on World Communion Sunday in October).
2. Cleaning the communion table and removing the elements after each service.
a. The leftover consecrated bread and juice are to be returned to God’s creation (poured or crumbled onto the ground-not tossed into the trash).
b. All serving pieces are to be washed, dried and returned to their proper storage places. The linens should be thoroughly laundered to remove juice stains, then starched and pressed.
