GSUMC – Role Description
We are called to love, worship, and serve as we seek to make disciples of Jesus Christ.
Role: Parsonage Committee Chair
Ministry Area: Resource Ministries - Trustees, Parsonage Committee
Purpose
Term: 3 years.
Role Summary:
(See expectations under Parsonage Committee) The Chair can expect to spend additional time, over the committee members, contracting for repairs and meeting on site with contractors/service providers. The Chair should be named by the Committee on Lay Leadership during the annual nominating of persons to serve on the Administrative Council. The Parsonage Committee Chair acts as the "landlord" or key point of contact between the Parsonage Committee and the parsonage family. The other Parsonage Committee members provide support for the Chair as needed and play an advisory role in evaluating parsonage projects and conditions. The Chair is vested with the authority and an adequate budget to take care of emergency repairs or replacements as the need arises. This does not necessarily mean the Chair must be able to make the repairs personally, just that the Chair knows whom to contact to see that things are taken care of in a timely manner. A contractual understanding should allow that in the event that the Parsonage Chair has been duly notified of an urgent need for repair or replacement of key parsonage fixtures or appliances, and that no action has been taken to correct the problem within 30 days, then the parsonage family has the right to arrange for repairs/replacements themselves and will bill the church for the resultant charges. Conversely, the church expects to be notified by the parsonage family within a reasonable period of time whenever damage, breakdowns, or other problems occur so that they may be addressed before problems escalate.
Responsibilities:
1. Member of the Trustees Parsonage Subcommittee
Skills:
1. Good listening skills.
2. Organizational skills.
3. Good interpersonal skills.
4. Multi-media communications skills.
Estimated Time per Month: Undetermined.
