Role: Board of Trustees Chair (¶249.4; 252.5 e; 259.3; 2524-2551)

Purpose
Term: Annual, elected by Trustees at first annual meeting.
Role Summary:
The Chair of the Board of Trustees directs and coordinates the activities of the Board as defined in The Book of Discipline of the UMC. Presides at all Board meetings, ascertains proceedings are recorded, and keeps discussions focused on the agenda items on the table. Works in collaboration with the Pastor and other committees, groups and individuals in the Church congregation to accomplish the work of the Board. Performs the role functions of a Member of the Board of Trustees. May be a bonded position. Ascertains the required Board positions of Chair, vice-Chair and secretary are elected annually to serve a 1-year term.
Responsibilities:
1. Member of the Board of Trustees.
2. Member of the Administrative Council Leadership Team.
3. Provides required reports to the annual Charge Conference (2549).
4. Calls meetings and presides
5. Prepares Agenda for Board meetings.
6. Directs and facilitates activities of the Board.
7. Reports Board activities to Administrative Council.
8. Identifies and addresses issues/needs related to church facilities/property.
9. Is required signatory on certain church legal documents involving church properties.
10. May grant permission to use church property with Pastoral approval.
11. Insurance coverage for Church properties.
12. Ensures the proper maintenance and care of Church properties.
