Role: Cemetery Committee Member
Ministry Area: Resource Ministries - Trustees, Cemetery Committee
Purpose
Term: 3 years.
Role Summary:
This committee helps families in the selection of burial sites, and is a resource for funeral directors who have questions concerning burials in our church cemeteries. It is helpful for committee members to have knowledge of the cemetery and of the families who have loved ones buried there. Committee members must assist families and church members with Christian love and compassion, since death is a very challenging to family members.
Responsibilities:
1. Maintaining the records of the cemeteries (who is buried where, who has reserved which plot, etc.).
2. Carrying the church’s established policy concerning cemeteries
3. To oversee the upkeep of the cemeteries
4. Assist eligible persons in preselecting a grave plot for themselves once they reach age 65.
5. Assist families in choosing a grave plot at the time of death, if not previously accomplished.
6. Have the grave plot staked out for excavation when a death occurs, if this hasn’t been previously been done.
