GSUMC – Role Description

We are called to love, worship, and serve as we seek to make disciples of Jesus Christ.

 

Role:                   Singles Organizer

 

Ministry Area:     Hospitality

 

Purpose: 

 

Term:                  Annual, may be renewed.


Role Summary:

The Singles Group began in 2001 to help those recently separated from spouses, recently divorced, or widowed to cope with their loss. The pastor led discussions and introduced ways to cope with the various situations, and understand the process we needed to go through to deal with these issues.


Responsibilities:

     1.  Organize activities for the singles in the church community.

     2.  Identify those singles needing ministry, and determine their needs.

     3.  Continue to be helpful with tasks and support with such activities as:

          a.  moving to a new home

          b.  providing counsel when emotionally stressed

          c.  encouraging participation with the various activities and ministries of the church

          d.  going to group events with other Christian singles groups (We participated with some events at St. Matthew’s UMC)

          e.  providing information about other singles groups and counseling help available in the community. (There are web sites which focus on singles groups and events)

     4.  Note: If singles are attending church, make a personal contact to encourage them to return.

     5.  Make personal contacts to keep them informed about church events, and generally to show concern for them.

     6.  Contact or visit singles, if they are sick or in the hospital, etc.

     3.  Good interpersonal skills.

     4.  Multi-media communications skills.
